Signal Maintenance Division

The Signal Maintenance Division's function is to
install, operate, and maintain the townwide Emergency Notification System, including the
Fire Department Dispatch Center and the Police Emergency Call System. To deliver these
services, 428 fire alarm boxes, including 139 master boxes for schools, hospitals, and
large apartment buildings are strategically located throughout the town and are connected
to the Fire Alarm Dispatch Center, The Fire Department Dispatch Center handles all fire
and emergency medical calls and dispatches the necessary apparatus. The system contains 71
emergency call boxes connected to the Police Department. The division has a staff of
seven, including one superintendent of wires, and fire alarms, five fire alarm operators,
and one lineman. The goal of the Fire Department Signal Maintenance Division is to provide
Brookline with efficient and reliable municipal fire and emergency reporting systems.
