This summer, many children
are heading off to
summer camp. Parents should consider the following items to help ensure their child a safe
and happy camp experience. Before choosing a summer camp, consider the following:
Appropriate permits indicating
compliance with town and state health regulations. All Massachusetts childrens camps are required to have the following local Health
Department permits:
- Summer camp permit
- Swimming pool and/or beachfront
permit (if applicable)
- Staff to child ratios and staff qualifications.
- Appropriate supervision by lifeguard(s) in swimming areas.
- Ask about medical coverage. Is there a nurse on-site?
- Ask about notification policy if your child becomes ill or injured. Does the camp
require medical records?
- Ask about discipline policies.
