Town of Brookline Recruitment Practices

The Town of Brookline utilizes employees in many different occupations. Most of these positions are listed in the Classification and Salary Grade Plans.

Vacant positions are filled either through the Massachusetts Civil Service system or by direct recruitment and advertising. All positions that are not filled through the Massachusetts Civil Service system or by promotion are advertised on this website, the Brookline TAB, various publications with recognized circulation in minority communities, and other publications as appropriate for the particular position. Summer Camp Opportunities!

Seasonal

Co-Directors/Directors ($15.00/hr)
Co-Directors/Directors are seasoned education or recreation professionals who manage and supervise one of the three Brookline Recreation Summer Camps. In this role, they are responsible for keeping their respective staff well informed of issues and concerns, for providing support and advice, and for managing parent communication. Co-Directors/Directors must be a minimum of 21 years of age, have a bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, and leadership experience in a camp setting.

Leader In Training (LIT) Coordinator ($12.50/hr)
The LIT Coordinator is an experienced education or recreation professional who directs and provides instruction to the LIT staff. In this role, the LIT Coordinator is responsible for coaching and educating the LIT staff about managing groups of children, planning and implementing activities, working with children. Also, this person plans teambuilding and recreational activities for the LIT staff. LIT Coordinators must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have leadership experience in a camp setting, preferably with teenagers.

Counselors ($10/hr)
Counselors are primarily responsible for the management of a single group of campers in a specific age group, leading them through their daily activities. Counselors must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have excellent experience in managing groups of children. They are also responsible for supporting specialists and supervising their Junior Counselors and LIT’s. Counselors are typically hired to work with children aged 5 & 6, 7 to 9, or 10 to 13.

Junior Counselors ($9.00/hr)
Junior Counselors assist Counselors by providing a specific group of campers with physical and emotional safety, enjoyment, and an overall positive camp experience. They are also are expected to assist specialists in the full range of camp activities. Each day offers many opportunities for responsibility and leadership. Junior Counselors must be either 16 or 17 years of age at the start of the camp season. Junior Counselors are typically hired to work with children aged 5 & 6 or 7 to 9 age ranges.

Specialists ($12.25/hr)
Specialists are individuals who stand out in a specific activity area and have experience teaching their craft. Current camp activities include: sports, art, drama, music, creative reading/writing, and nature. Specialists are responsible for creating and leading activities that engage campers in their particular activity. Specialists are typically hired to work with children aged 5 & 6 or 7 to 9 age ranges.

Leaders In Training (LIT)
LIT’s assist with supervising a camper group, under the immediate supervision of a counselor. LIT’s have the opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience while working closely with campers, setting up activities, and facilitating games. Also, LIT’s that are interested in becoming a lifeguard or swim instructor have an opportunity to gain valuable experience working closely with lifeguards and swim instructors at the Brookline Swimming Pool. Leaders In Training must be 14 or 15 years of age at the beginning of the summer camp season. For more information about the LIT program, please call 617-739-7578.
