The 59-unit St. Aidan’s project, sponsored by the non-profit Planning
Office for Urban Affairs, Inc. and assisted by the Town of Brookline as
well as other public and private entities, combines the preservation of
a historic church building through adaptive reuse; the preservation of
open space, including a specimen copper beech tree, through conservation
easements; and the creation of 36 new units of permanently affordable
housing.
The site is located at the intersection of Pleasant, Freeman and
Crowninshield Streets in North Brookline. The existing St. Aidan’s
church building will be adapted for nine luxury units. Fourteen
market-rate units will be built in two townhouse buildings along
Crowninshield Street, with seven three-bedroom duplexes over seven
one-bedroom flats. A multifamily building, facing Pleasant Street and
ranging from three to five stories in height, will include 20
lower-income rental units and 16 moderate-income condominiums. Parking
will be accommodated in an underground garage.
