Recreation Department Policies
The Brookline Recreation Department’s mission is to be a leading promoter of a sense of community, family and personal growth, physical fitness and enjoyment through high quality, affordable programs and services responsive to the needs of families and individuals in the Town of Brookline. If for any reason a program does not meet your needs, please call us at 617-730-2069.
Mystery Shopper The Brookline Recreation Department strives to improve programs with the "Mystery Shopper" program. By becoming a mystery shopper you can help us continue to strive for "satisfaction guaranteed" by providing feedback on classes in which you are enrolled. If you would like to become a mystery shopper and earn program incentives, please call 617-730-2069.

Park Maintenance If you have any concerns regarding playground equipment or park maintenance please call 617-730-2149 or 617-730-2167.
Registrants and participants permit the taking of photos and videos of themselves and their children during recreation activities for publication and use as the Recreation Department deems necessary.
Insurance Information The Commission and Department are unable to assume responsibility for injuries or accidents occurring at programs, activities, parks and facilities. This includes sledding, skiing and coasting at any park or playground. Skating on the pond at Larz Anderson is done at each persons own risk.
Snowmobiling is not allowed in any park in the Town of Brookline. Violators will be subject to a $100 fine.
In order to keep our parks clean and enjoyable for everyone, please remember if you are a dog owner to keep your dog on a leash and to clean up after your pet. It's the law in Brookline. Loss of Valuables The Brookline Park and Recreation Commission cannot be responsible for loss of valuables and/or personal property while participating in any of our recreation programs. You may bring a lock to secure your personal belongings in a locker while using the Evelyn Kirrane Aquatic Center.
Financial Aid/Scholarship Assistance Confidential application can be
made to the Director of Recreation, and if a hardship exists, the applicant
may be granted a reduction in fee at the discretion of the Director. Many
programs are self supporting, which limits the amount of available aid per
program. Applications must be received 15 business days before the start of
a program unless otherwise stated in registration information. Please call
617-739-7590 to request a scholarship application or download an application
below. In order to apply for a scholarship you must completely fill out the Scholarship Application Form and send it back with all verification forms. The Application Form must have the names of all household members, the amount of income received the last calendar year, the signature of an adult household member and that adult’s social security number. If you are applying for a foster child, the application must have the child’s name, the child’s "personal use" income, and an adult signature. VERIFICATION: The Brookline Recreation Department requires you to send verification of your household income along with this application. This should include any verification of State aid and/or a current 1040 tax form with copies of all your household W-2 forms and/or an immigration form. You or your family’s eligibility may be checked at any time during program participation. CONFIDENTIALITY: The Brookline Recreation Department will use the information on the application only to decide if you or your child(ren) qualify to receive a partial scholarship to recreation programs. All applicant’s will be notified by mail to let you know if you were approved or denied a scholarship. Earnings from Work Pensions/Retirement/Social

Department requires you to send verification of your household income along
with this application. This should include any verification of State aid
and/or a current 1040 tax form with copies of all your SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Refund Policy You may withdraw from a program up to fifteen (15) working days in advance of the starting date of that program and receive a refund minus a $10 processing fee. No refunds will be given after this date (15 working days prior to the program). Refunds for a program paid for by cash or check take 4 - 6 weeks. Refunds for a program paid for by MasterCard, Visa or American Express take 7 - 14 days to place a credit back onto the charge account. Refunds will not be given for multiple online registrations for the same program.

Are you looking for a place to have a birthday party, meeting or family function? The Recreation Department has various facilities available. If you would like to rent a facility please call the main office at 617-730-2069 for more information. The Recreation Staff looks forward to helping you plan your special event.
Field Permits A permit must be obtained from
the Brookline Recreation Department in order to use a playing field. Permits
will be limited to Saturday and Sunday use only. Field permits can be
reserved no more than two (2) weeks in advance of the day you wish to use
the field. Field use may be limited as Brookline School Department,
Recreation, and Brookline Youth Sports will have first preference on all
fields. All remaining fields will be issued on a first-come, first-served

Opportunity Employer. CDBG Employment Program The CDBG program serves 14-21 year old Brookline residents. Public sector placements are made in many Town Departments and/or Agencies. The CDBG Youth Employment Program is completely funded through HUD Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocation. Complete Federal funding requires that all the participants meet low to moderate income guidelines. Income verification is required. Working papers are required for 14 and 15 year old applicants. Educational certificates are required for applicants 16 to 18 years old. Health certificates are required for applicants 16 and over.
