The Underground Wires Committee was established by Town Meeting in November, 2002 to investigate alternatives to overhead utility wiring, including the possibility of placing all such wiring underground. The Committee was appointed by the Board of Selectmen and charged to report to Town Meeting in the Spring of 2003. 

This past June Town Meeting referred the Committee’s recommendations back to the Committee for further review. As part of that review the Committee is seeking additional input from citizens, community organizations, local businesses, public officials, and other interested parties. 

The Board of Selectmen is most appreciative of the extent and quality of the work, carried out by the Underground Wires Committee. The members are: Selectman Gilbert Hoy, Helen Braun, Frank Caro, Melvin Clouse, Richard Farwell Wei-Lee Shia and Peter Ditto.

The Board of Selectmen seeks public comment on Town procedures for zoning administration, tracking and enforcement. Public comment is sought as part of study being conducted by a professional consultant retained to examine zoning related operations and practices. 

The Selectmen will hold this hearing during the evening session of its regularly scheduled meeting of Tuesday June 22nd which commences at 8:00 p.m. Town officials from Boards and Departments involved with zoning matters will be in attendance.  Anyone with concerns, questions, or suggestions about zoning related issues is encouraged to attend.

CABLE TELEVISION 
PUBLIC ASCERTAINMENT HEARING



A public ascertainment hearing will be held on March 8, 2004, 
at 1:00 p.m., in the Meeting Room at the Brookline Senior Center, 93 
Winchester Avenue, Brookline, MA. The purpose of the hearing will 
be to review the performance of the current cable television operator, 
Comcast (previously Cablevision) during its current license term and 
to hear testimony on future cable-related needs and interests of the 
Brookline community. Interested parties are encouraged to attend and 
offer testimony on any cable-related matters. Any applications and reports 
to be considered at the hearing are available for public inspection at the 
Brookline Town Hall during regular business hours and for reproduction

LOCAL TAX LEVY

 

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Brookline will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Sixth Floor, Town Hall, 333 Washington Street, at 8:45 p.m. in accordance with G.L.c. 40, S. 56 on the question of the adoption of the percentages of the local tax levy to be borne by each class of real property and personal property for the 2003 Fiscal Year. 

Under the law, the Board may require commercial, industrial, and personal property owners to assume up to approximately 175% of their normal share of the tax levy. The Board may also consider adopting a homestead exemption of up to twenty (20) percent of the average assessed value of all class one residential parcels.

The Fiscal Policy Review Committee, appointed by the Board of Selectmen to review Town budgeting practices for reserves and for capital financing, will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 23, 2003 at 7:00pm. The hearing will be held in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room on the 6th floor of Town Hall.

The Committee is interested in the thoughts and opinions of citizens, community organizations, and Town officials about Town fiscal policies for reserve accounts and the Capital Improvements Program. Written comments are also welcome. They can be transmitted by letter or e-mail to the Town Administrator.

The Committee expects to complete its findings and recommendations in time for their consideration in the FY05 Financial Plan. The Financial Plan must be filed by February 15 of each year.

The Selectmen are most appreciative that such talented citizens are willing to contribute their time and expertise to this effort. The Board of Selectmen will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Sixth Floor, Town Hall, 333 Washington Street, Brookline, for public comment on the recommendation in the Town Administrator’s FY2003 Budget Message to increase the Residential Trash Fee. This fee has been held constant since 1994, while costs have increased by nearly $1 million. The recommendation calls for the fee to be increased from $165 to $195 per household.

PARKING FINES
Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at 8:00 p.m.

The Brookline Board of Selectmen will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Sixth Floor, Town Hall, 333 Washington Street, to consider the following increases in Parking Fines: 

$5 Increase Overnight Permit Parking 

$10 Increase Parking within an Intersection; Stopping Violation; Bus or Trolley Stop; Loading Zone; No Parking/Restricted Area; Parking Upon Sidewalk; Parking in Crosswalk; Taxi Cab Stand; Meter Overtime; Parking within 20ft of Intersection; In excess of posted time limit; Standing Violation; Meter Fee Unpaid (5 or 10 hr. meter); Meter Space Violation; Meter Fee Unpaid (1,2 or 3 hr. meter) 

$15 Increase Double Parking; On Street Overnight Parking; Off Street Overnight Parking.

It is also proposed that late payment fees be increased from $5 to $10.

SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION, REPLACEMENT 
AND MAINTENANCE 


The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing to seek public input and comment on Town procedures for constructing, replacing, and maintaining public sidewalks. The Board intends to consider comments received in the formulation of a comprehensive long-range policy to address needs identified by the Department of Public Works in a townwide study of sidewalk conditions. 

The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room, Sixth Floor, Town Hall, 333 Washington Street.
