The National Park Service Seeks Volunteers at
Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site
Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline, Massachusetts is seeking volunteers to be part of the National Park Service's Volunteers in Parks (VIP) program. The VIP program was developed to give people the opportunity to become part of the National Park Service's mission - helping to interpret and preserve our nation’s natural and cultural heritage.
Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site, located at 99 Warren Street in Brookline, was the home and office of America's premier landscape architect and his firm for close to a century.
The Olmsted firm worked on such notable projects as Central Park in New York, the U.S. Capitol Grounds, Stanford University, and Boston’s own “Emerald Necklace” park system.
Volunteers work directly with visitors to the site and also have opportunities to assist with special projects and events. Interested candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills, a desire to work with the public, computer experience, and an interest in history, landscape architecture, museums, and/or the National Park Service. Muddy River Restoration Draft Environmental Impact Report
The Draft Environmental Impact Report for the upcoming Muddy River Restoration Project is currently
available for public review at Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site
at 99 Warren Street in Brookline, among other sites. The Muddy River
Restoration Project is a joint project of the City of Boston and the Town
of Brookline in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Its
objectives include: flood control improvement, water quality improvement,
historic landscape rehabilitation, aquatic/riparian habitat enhancement,
and Best Management Practice (BMP) implementation. If you are interested
in reviewing these materials, please call ahead at 617-566-1689, and ask
for Visitor Services. The report may also be reviewed at the Brookline
Department of Public Works at Town Hall and the Emerald Necklace
Conservancy in Brookline Village.
