Camp Tips

This summer, many children are heading off to
summer camp. Parents should consider the following items to help ensure their child a safe and happy camp experience. Before choosing a summer camp, consider the following:

  • Appropriate permits indicating compliance with town and state health regulations. All Massachusetts children’s camps are required to have the following local Health Department permits:

- Summer camp permit

- Swimming pool and/or beachfront
permit (if applicable)

  • Staff to child ratios and staff qualifications.
  • Appropriate supervision by lifeguard(s) in swimming areas.
  • Ask about medical coverage. Is there a nurse on-site?
  • Ask about notification policy if your child becomes ill or injured. Does the camp require medical records?
  • Ask about discipline policies.
