Q. What is the Human Relations-Youth Resources Commission (HR-YRC)?
A. Created by Town Meeting in 1970, the Human Relations-Youth Resources Commission is Brookline's official agency dealing in the areas of intergroup relations, civil rights and youth advocacy.

 

 

Q. Where is the Human Relations-Youth Resources Commission located?
A. The HR-YRC is located on the first floor of the Brookline Health Center, 11 Pierce Street across from Town Hall.

Q. How often and where does the Commission meet?
A. The HR-YRC meets at 7:30 P.M. on the third Wednesday of the month at the Brookline Health Center, 11 Pierce Street, downstairs in the Denny Room. Meetings are open to the public.

 

 

Q. What other programmatic responsibility does the Commission have?
A. The Director is Brookline's Affirmative Action Officer, Fair Housing Officer, Minority/Women Business Officer, Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 Officer, Ombudsman for Cable Television and staff to the Holocaust Memorial Committee and the Community Partnership Committee. The Director also provides staff assistance to the Brookline Domestic Violence Roundtable.

 

 

Q. What is the Child Care Resource Guide?
A. The HR-YRC publishes an annual Child Care Resource Guide that is available for $3.00. This Guide lists all day care center opportunities in the town. The Guide has been published continuously since the 1970s. To obtain the Guide stop by the Commission office or send a check for $3.00 made payable to "Town of Brookline" and mail it along with your name and address to the Commission.

Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Team

The federally mandated Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Team was created by the Board of Selectmen in 1993. The goal of the ADA Transition Team remains the evaluation of town programs, services, buildings, streets, sidewalks, parks, and playgrounds in order to insure accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The ADA Coordinator for the Town of Brookline is C. Stephen Bressler. Mr. Bressler may be reached at his office at the Human Relations-Youth Resources Commission.
