Founded in 2001, the Brookline Neighborhood Alliance (BNA) is a network of neighborhood associations in Brookline. Its purposes include strengthening existing associations and encouraging the formation of new ones; facilitating communication between neighborhood associations; and promoting the resolution of issues of concern to Brookline’s neighborhoods.

BNA Activities
The BNA holds frequent meetings on topics of interest to Brookline’s neighborhoods. Recent topics have included various development proposals, strategies for neighborhood preservation, and services provided by Brookline’s Department of Public Works. One BNA meeting each year is a forum for candidates for the Board of Selectmen. BNA representatives participated in the process that shaped Brookline’s Comprehensive Plan and also serve on the Town’s new Zoning By-law Committee. The BNA has supported the efforts of neighborhoods to form local historic districts. Each spring, the BNA annual meeting features an invited speaker (Mel King and Jane Holtz Kay are recent examples) and the presentation of several Neighborhood Leadership Awards.

BNA Members
Over twenty neighborhood associations and other groups are members of the BNA. These associations have been active in Brookline’s civic life. In recent years, neighborhood associations have worked to preserve and improve many parks, opposed inappropriate residential and commercial development, campaigned to limit the height of the proposed Two Brookline Place building, campaign to preserve the historic St. Aidan’s church building, and created new local historic districts. Many neighborhood associations also sponsor social events for their members.
