| R.A.F.T. is a year round club for teens in Grades 6 - 8. This past year over 1000 teens joined and participated in the planned events. Members of this club play an important role in deciding on trips and activities offered. The clubs purpose is to offer members safe, quality trips and special events they have expressed an interest in, at little to minimal cost. There will be a $10 yearly membership fee that will entitle each member to discount admission and transportation fees to each selected event. Once a student is registered he/she will receive a R.A.F.T. ID card which needs to be presented to participate in the activities. Students will also receive a monthly newsletter, which contains information on upcoming trips and special events for that month. | |

| Q: How many chaperones are at
each R.A.F.T. event? A: The number of chaperones depend on the type of event being held. For each dance, we have about 18-20 Recreation Department employees serve as chaperones for the evening. During teen center nights, there are 4-5 Recreation Department employees that oversee the teen center and its activities. When the R.A.F.T. program has a trip, the number of chaperones depends on the number of R.A.F.T. members attending. For smaller trips (20-30 R.A.F.T. members) there will be approximately 2-3 staff present; for larger trips (40-60 R.A.F.T. members) there will be approximately 4-6 staff present. At least one Full-Time Recreation Department employee will be at every R.A.F.T. event. Q: Who are the chaperones/staff that supervise R.A.F.T. events? A: Many of the R.A.F.T. staff are employees of the Recreation Department and are also part-time or seasonal employees in other Recreation Department programs (Basketball, Soccer, Skating Rink, Summer Camp, etc.). The majority of our staff have worked with the R.A.F.T. program for many years and have built some great relationships with R.A.F.T.members. Q: How thorough is the hiring process for R.A.F.T. staff? A: Each candidate must go through an extensive application and screening process, which includes a written application, a personal interview, three references, and checks with both the Criminal Offender Registry and the Sex Offender Registry. Q: Do R.A.F.T. staff hold any certifications? A: R.A.F.T. staff are certified in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid/AED. In addition, several R.A.F.T. staff hold higher certifications for Water Safety Instruction, Lifeguarding, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. |
